Balloon sinuplasty can be a pleasant experience for the patient in the office

Dr. Richard Strabbing of Michigan ENT & Allergy Specialists embraced balloon sinus surgery early on because the risks were low and the success rate for patients was high.
“I have a profound depth of experience with balloon sinus procedures,” Strabbing said. “I did my first balloon case in 2007. I have taught many other doctors how to do this procedure. In 2010, I was involved in a nationwide study that looked at moving the procedure from the operating room to the office.”

In the procedure, a tiny balloon is inserted into the patient’s sinuses, slowly inflated to open the sinus passageway, then deflated and removed.

Strabbing became a doctor to be able to help people improve their lives, and he discovered that performing balloon sinuplasty procedures was an effective way to do this.

“I was one of the forerunners for doing balloon sinuplasty in the upper Midwest,” he said. “At that time, the first case was still (performed) in the operating room. Over time, we learned to do this in the office. I personally was one of several (doctors) across the U.S. that pioneered this technology in the office.” Since those early days, he has been involved nationally in refining the anesthesia protocol to make sure patients have a pleasant experience during the procedure.

“With my experience in balloon sinuplasty, I’m able to custom tailor a plan for the patient,” he said.

As a national leading provider of ENT and allergy services, it is no surprise that Michigan ENT & Allergy is one of the first to bring you the latest in sinusitis treatments.
