Where to start
Patients are using many methods to achieve great skin, and we offer many options for skin care and treatment plans. We often see patients who are beginning to desire to “do something” about changes they have begun seeing in their skin. Years of sun exposure, less-than-optimal skin health maintenance, aging, genetics, hormone changes, and more factors contribute to textural concerns, excess pigment, scarring, and fine lines. We routinely are questioned about “where to start,” because we have so many options. We offer free consultations and would be happy to evaluate your skin and customize a skincare/anti-aging plan that is unique to you. A common place to start is microdermabrasion, which is a no-downtime method of improving skin tone, texture, pigment, and lines. This procedure is a skin-revitalizing treatment that helps repair skin, and uses gentle abrasion and vacuum to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. We use the original Crystal-Free Diamond-Tome wand to remove the dead, outer layer of skin by gently exfoliating the skin with natural diamond chips, while vacuuming the dead skin cells away in a clean and controlled manner. This leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells. Removing the outermost layer of dead skin also allows better penetration of whatever products are patients are using on their skin, too!
What method we use
There are different methods of exfoliating systems, from “particle microdermabrasion” (think of “sanding of the face, with actual loose particles used for exfoliating the skin) to chemical peels (chemically removing the outermost layer of skin). Our crystal-free system achieves skin rejuvenation without the adverse effects of loose particles, burning, or irritation. It is painless and effective, and results are seen and felt immediately. While you may see visible results after the first treatment, lasting and more significant results will occur after a series of treatments. After your treatment, we will remove the filter from the ma chine and be able to see how much skin was removed, and will make recommendations for the timing of intervals of treatments accordingly. Your skin may look slightly flushed immediately after the treatment but should return to normal in 10 to 30 minutes. It is considered a “lunchtime” procedure, which means it can be performed over a lunch hour, and you can return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. It is advisable to avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for a at least a few days after your treatment, and a sunscreen is essential to use afterwards, since exfoliated skin has temporarily lost some of its natural protection to the environment.
The benefits
Microdermabrasion offers benefits to anyone who wants to improve specific skin conditions and rejuvenate the overall health and appearance of their skin. It can be used to improve minor to moderate early aging fine lines, minor revision of scars, sun damaged skin, hyperpigmentation reduction, reduction of acne scars and age spots, improve blackheads and whiteheads, and overall skin health. It is not recommended for those with active acne, uncontrolled diabetes, eczema, skin cancer, viral lesions such as active herpes simplex, vascular lesions, those taking oral blood thinners, pregnant women or for tattoos (it will not remove them).
Who can have it done?
Microdermabrasion is a great way to start caring for your skin, and can be used on all skin types. We see men, women, teens and tweens for microdermabrasion, and we welcome you to come and experience this popular procedure to begin revitalizing your skin.
